EBSILUX Designathon – Designing Concepts for a More Accessible EBSI Diploma Use Case

On May 11 and 12, 2022, 17 participants from Europe with different backgrounds and skills, took part in the unique EBSILUX Designathon, co-funded by the European Union, the first to be organised in the context of the European Diplomas use case.

The EBSILUX Designathon focused on helping educational and human resources institutions to be among the firsts to be ready to adopt a European Diplomas use case that allows the issuing of diplomas by authorized organization and the verification of those diplomas validity using the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI).

The designathon took place at the GovTech Lab Luxembourg and gathered professionals from the diploma office, human resources, IT engineers, project managers and designers, who were grouped in four teams to develop an innovative concept based on the tamperproof European diplomas tool through design thinking, to make the diploma solution accessible to a wider audience.

After two days of brainstorming and designing with the help of the event partner Agile Partner, the four teams DESIA, ProCert-Chain, Smart Diploma and Talent European Database, had 15 minutes each to present their creative concept to subject matter experts. Organised as a collaborative event, the EBSILUX Designathon had no winners and jury members were present to share their valuable feedback.

The first team who presented, DESIA, created a concept of a digital place to learn and promote educational credentials through a system of ambassadors and regrouping info, materials, EU events and meet ups, and badges and rewards on the platform.

Team ProCert-Chain focused on current problems in the recruitment process. Their solutions aims to automate the process of recruiting, provide cryptographical verification of professional experience and create a trustworthy ecosystem for companies.

The Smart Diploma team presented a prototype of their “smart diploma” wallet that provides continuous learning, data quality, trust, authenticity and transparency. It is also an environment-friendly and time and cost saving digital wallet that improves employability.

Team Talent European Database proposed a web app powered by the EBSI Blockchain and structured diploma metadata through Artificial Intelligence matching skills with diplomas, generating a trusted match score. It would include a public search engine with skills linked with diplomas and diplomas linked with skills, as well as a private search engine which gives access to student wallets with credentials and skills.

Following the EBSILLUX Designathon, all the concepts are made available to the larger EBSI community which might use the results to improve the interoperable and cross-border Diploma Use Case solution.

The final presentations are available on replay below and on the EBSILUX YouTube Channel.
